Yeah, because the ALO Tweezer is so noob-friendly...
Exactly why Vegas 96 or A Live One would be good. Most of it isn't anything special but it has a couple decent non-nooby jams. That is how you ease people into things. Not just dropping the '95 Halloween YEM on them

I always suggest 12.31.95 because that is what got me into it.
A Live One is what got me into the live stuff in high school. But I started on the studio stuff first, so maybe that would be the way to go. So check out Picture of Nectar and Billy Breathes.

Or if you want to jump right the frick in, check out A Live One, specifically the Harry Hood, Stash, and You Enjoy Myself. If you think you have a good feel for it after that, try out the Tweezer. If you hate the Tweezer, definitely try to avoid anything from 94-95 that is longer than 20 minutes.

Island Tour 4/2/98-4/5/98 is what got me into them. Give it a listen.

The ALO Tweezer is a 30 minute jam with plenty of dissonance and overall weirdness

I'd take a different approach from the earlier suggestions. If you want to listen to Phish, don't start with the live stuff. Just put on Billy Breathes or possibly Hoist. If that doesn't work for you, then it's not your cup of tea.

The ALO Tweezer is actually pretty interesting and well put together imo

Check out this out if you want to hear a disonant boring meandering mess of a 40+ minute jam: 6/22/95 Tweezer

When it comes to stuff like that my favorite is the 12.29.94 David Bowie

See that's a long meandering jam, but it's actually pretty awesome

I try and act like I really enjoy the 30-50 minute 94-95 stuff Phish did, but deep down I realize that most of it is really boring crap

They are ok but if you don't like the Dead you won't like Phish.

The Dead and ABB are in a league of their own when it comes to jam bands.

You probably just don't like that style of music tbh.

Not necessarily true at all.

The Grateful Dead and Phish are the two quintessential jam bands. The Allman Brothers Band's run in the early '70s was nothing short of phenomenal, but sadly having Duane for only a few years takes them out of the equation.

Honestly. He needs to start with the studio albums.

Phish suffers from the little brother syndrome when it comes to the Grateful Dead. Not taking anything away from Phish, but they aren't on the same level as the Grateful Dead and probably never will be.

Heady, just finished watching 12/31/95 and wow that was incredible. That show would have been something else to see live. Especially the end of it. Can you, or anyone else, recommend another good show that I can watch on YouTube?
