As you are heading up to Denali, stop by Talkeetna for a night. It's a really tiny ski lodge town with cool bars.

Northern Exposure used Talkeetna as a model. Love that place. Lots of mountaineers and bush pilots. Avoid the train crowds though

I really need to take the kids. I know the stuff I saw will be gone ,but how is the fishing on the Russian and the skiing at eagle river? Im a matsu boy

Fishing on the Kenai and Russian Rivers is called combat fishing for a reason. It's insane, too many people. Hatchers Pass is pretty awesome above Palmer. Definitely one place anyone visiting Anchorage should see.

I don't know how it is now, but when I was there, there were only one or two motels/lodges. We were backpacking, so it wasn't a problem, but if you want a roof over your head, you'll probably need reservations.

I actually lived in Eagle River for a year and a half in the early 1990s. Its truly a beautiful place in the summer time. I suggest a bear tour and find some coupons and go up in a water plane. It is awesome. Also, do not underrate Eskimo women. They're often short and some have hair that grows in funny places, but my goodness they frick like salmon.

Just got back from ancorage two weeks ago. Biked along the coastal trail, hiked in the mountains out there, went down to girdwood and explored there. Loved it

We went down to Seward also and hiked around the kenai peninsula. There is so much to do outside, it's absolutely incredible. I'm jealous that you're going, I want to be back

I think so. Pretty sure, but when I lived in that area things were a bit hazy... In addition to Palmer-Fishhook, I also lived in Meadow Lakes and Big Lake.

That area is really booming. Last time I went I was shocked at the homes being built

Do an all species/combination fishing trip out of Seward. We caught silver salmon, ling cod, and halibut. One of the best trips I ever made. As a bonus we also saw lots of wildlife while on the trip.

Me too, but 3 years in the early 90s, but I was in Jr High. Good ole Gruening Jr High.

Not much left to say that hasn't been said, Hatchers, Portage

The Butte near Palmer is a fun little hike and give you a cool view. Much better stuff to do like that in Denali though.

I dont think i'll be wasting my time at a strip club to be honest. Strip clubs arent really my bag anyway.

Thanks for all the helpful tips.

Did a guys' trip a few years back and we stayed in Homer, loved it. Did a fishing charter, went sailing, went kayaking, great times.

Hit up Seward. Avoid Chinooks. (Portion size too small for the prices)

On your way to Denali stop and go zip lining. (Talkeetna)

A few places in Anchorage I'd eating at:
-Clacier Brewhouse
-Moose's Tooth
-Snow City Cafe (Breakfast)

Also, if you are going to be here this weekend there is going to be a big airshow here on base. (July 26-27)
