I figured out a way to make it work. I have to have the computer I want to use plugged into the router. then I have to make sure internet connection sharing is off on the computer I want to use and on on the other computer. I then unplug/replug the router. every time I want to switch computers I have to do this process. can only have one computer connected to the internet
probably some other way to do this but after 5 hours of trial and error this works. frick it

Well, good luck.
It certainly shouldn't be that way.
If your router is set as a DCHP server (default), then as long as you have the right SSID/password/encryption set on any device, it should connect wirelessly.

You habe something configured wrong. Sounds like you don't have the router setup at all. It is basically being used as a switch so that your 2nd computer can get an IP from the computer that has connection sharing on
You should not have connection sharing running on either. Your router should he doing that.
What does the back of your router look like? What device do you have plugged in to what port on the router?
