wasn't it in a distraction issue to have a black head coach when Tony was coming up?

There have been many issues and teams have dealt with them just fine. It has been well documented that Sam is prbly not the first gay player nor is he the first gay player that teammates know about. Collins didn't ruin the nets last year. The Pats did just fine with the Hernandez and Tebow stories. If there is an issue with the rams this year, it wont be because of anything Michael Sam related.

The ironic thing is that Dungy said he wouldn't want Sam due to the distraction and his point is proven by the dust up over the statement.

I've got an arse full of Sam. The way this is playing out is doing more harm than good for the cause of gay, pro athletes. The circus is tiring.

what has jff done that makes him a bad person? ... do not use his propensity to use the media spotlight as there is no difference between his use of it and sam's ...

I mean he was doing cocaine in a bathroom in Vegas. I'd say that makes him a bad person.

How do you figure that?

Johnny Manziel is also a much better player than Michael Sam. So there's that.....

Good for Dungy for being honest. I wouldn't risk having my season being a circus on a 7th round pick that may not pan out.

Has nothing to do with homosexuality. It has everything to do with that individual possessing a persona that will bring enormous amounts of circus attention to my team/locker room.

On paper, Manziel is worth that risk because he looks to have a higher chance to succeed.

Most (if not all) 7th round picks are not worth that risk.

Of course which is why I am calling b/s. The patriots took on tebow after it was known what he could do talent wise. Teams can deal with the headache especially of this kind of player. All headaches aren't the same. He's not a player who is a cancer, I assume he works hard, etc.

If dungy had a chance, i think he would take him in a similar spot. He is not the most talented guy in the world, but he has proven he can play well in the best conference in the country. There is alot of upside and little risk with that 7th round pick.

Tony Dungy can say it and get away with it.

If John Gruden said the exact same thing ... he'd likely be fired.

They only gave him that award because he was gay.

They gave him that because he ran up good numbers because the OTHER defensive end was a legit NFL prospect who teams focused their pass protection on.

He'll be okay. The PC police aren't after the likes of him.

You might lose that bet. My guess is Tony would also not be interested in players with character issues in general.

Lol, wtf? Do you drink beer? If so, shut the frick up. If doing coke is qualification for a bad person, then the overwhelming majority of this nation is comprised of bad people.

agreed.

And doing cocaine (not to petar) doesn't make you a bad person BUT JFF is a piece of shite. He just happens to also do coke.

The day after the draft Sam announces that he's signed for a reality show with Oprah. He never consults the Rams or the team completely intruding into the concept of "team." Only after it backfires because he's shown to be "out" for selfish reasons, Oprah gives him a real out.

I'd say Dungy has already proven his point.

I'm glad someone like Dungy wouldn't draft Michael Sam

I'd hate to see him drive another person to commit suicide

As others have probably posted, I completely agree. It's going to be a circus with Sam as the main attraction.

He has no idea what's in store for him. Pro athletes will do anything to get under each other's skins. The fact that he just isn't very good will it help, but I'm sure his lack of performance will be blamed on homophobia.

Kudos to the Rams for nixing the stupid reality show.
