Yea, this one is pretty easy. Drago was like The Terminator.

This - particularly the 70s version of Foreman - not the friendly grandfather who made a feel good comeback and made 9 figures selling electric grills.

Rocky III is also interesting, whereas Clubber, more or less, out "Rockys" Rocky in their first fight. He trains in a simple, primitive style (much as Rocky had for the fights with Apollo) - while Rocky, for his farewell fight, is having a more Ali (sorry, Apollo) style training camp with girls, champagne, reporters, etc.

I never really appreciated the movie until Rocky 5 - compared to that, III is a masterpiece.

Creed was the man - he was washed up and came out of retirement to face Drago.

I am also confident he beat Balboa in the rubber match at the end of Rocky III.

Rocky = fights great

Creed = great fighter

i know drago kills creed but creed was old in that fight. way past his prime. plus it was supposed to be an exhibition!

Apollo Creed was always lying about his age. He lied about his age all the time. One time Frank Stallone came in here and sat in this chair. I said Frank 'you hang out with Apollo Creed, just between me and you, how old is Apollo Creed?' You know what Frank told me, he said "Hey, Apollo Creed is 137 years old." A hundred and thirty-seven years old!

I think Clubber Lang still beats Rocky in the first fight even if Mickey lives. Rocky had to become hungry again. He doesn't have the heart to pull that "you ain't so bad" in the first fight without some hardship first.

This is what pisses me off about the entire saga.

In I & II, Rocky is basically all heart. No real boxing skills. Doesn't block, doesn't move, just puts his head down and comes at you.

Then in Rocky III, Apollo teaches him how to fricking move around the ring and duck punches. He looked the absolute best he ever was in that 1st round of the 2nd fight against Clubber. He looked like a polished boxing champ instead of a damn gorilla.

And then when he fights Drago, he throws all that valuable training out the window and goes back to his old tendencies.

I don't know why, but that pisses me off.

Even Clubber knew this:

"Balboa's so predictable and stupid, the man comes straight ahead. He's tailor made for me, and he's gonna get hurt!"

This is why the answer is Clubber. Rocky had to completely change his style to overcome and defeat Lang.

He beat Drago fighting his old style and past his prime. Drago was a chump
