This. It's perfectly popcorn, for lack of a better word. And on top of that, it's basically perfectly "80s". And it's one of my favorite movies of all time, both because I think it's actually pretty good (and gets hated on because it's cool to call it gay...though I won't argue that it wasn't made as cheesy 80s man candy for the ladies ) and for nostalgia purposes. I love it. And can quote it back and forth.

This. Suck it haters

Plus I can't take Tom Cruise seriously anymore, and I don't understand how anyone does. I can't believe he still lands all these huge

Bc he's not a bad actor, his movies are entertaining, and his personal beliefs don't matter.

The volleyball scene is weird though.

When we first got surround sound in our house when I was a kid, the guy installing it put on the opening scene of top gun. :boner:

Needs to be remade. Hopefully Michael Bay would be involved.

still find it fascinating that the Navy at the time according to the movie had carriers just out there floating around without their on air wings, just had to have the guys go over and start WWIII by themselves

but I liked the movie

It's a chick flick...I always thought it was stupid...the dogfight scenes especially. Planes can send missiles with deadly accuracy to kill targets miles away and They have pilots trying to get visuals of enemy planes by looking all over the place...?
Stupid...

I never really understood the fighting at the end. I get that it was Russian fighters but it never was clear to me why there was a dogfight or what the Russians were doing. Of course I never worried about it too much bc it's just an awesome movie.

Well, then, you missed the point, sparky. The "Top Gun" school was supposed to teach dogfighting skills in case all that whiz bang stuff failed and you had to close with Sidewinders and M-61.

I mean, come on kid, they explained that at the beginning of the movie (or at least when they got to the school.)

I thought the end fight was an elaborate war game until the celebration at the end. So yeah, there could've been a sequel about the fallout from the skirmish.

Why? Because the "Mig-28s" looked suspiciously like U.S. made F-5s?
