Congrats on the Chessie. Do you know what breeder or the line she is from? Everything said about them being hard headed is definitely true but a lot of people don't realize that they can be very hard headed but still be very soft. They will completely shut down when a little bit of pressure is applied. Mine was bounced out by 2 well known local trainers, mainly because the typical field trial trainer's program just doesn't work with chesapeakes. I ended up sending her to a 3rd trainer in Florida that only trains brown dogs and within 10 weeks had a very workable dog back.
People say you can train a lab but you have to trick a chesapeake.
Mine has now picked up over 1000 birds and I wouldn't trade her for the world. The only issue I have is she is definitely the Alpha and has laid down the whooping on labs twice her size so I can't really let her roam around the camp when there are other dogs around.

Man I love the people that run their heads about their labs eating mine up. I don't even play into most of it because its not worth my time and money to have to fix one of their dogs. He's only gotten into with another hunting dog twice. Both were instigated by the other owner somewhat behind my back. Both pissed me off but I wasn't the one cleaning dog wounds if you know what im sayin.
