is it anticlimactic?

the final episode is tense from start to finish.

Hearst isn't a fictional character. He survived deadwood and moved on.

not sure how else that plot could have ended

I loved my mother.

Puberty may bring you to understand, what we take for mother love is really murderous hatred and a desire for revenge.
RICHARDSON
Will you give your speech to be Mayor tonight?
E.B. FARNUM
Whatever night I give it, count on me not to mince words. 'Electors of the camp, as to who should serve as Mayor reasonable men may differ, but as to who should be Sheriff we all ought speak with one voice and our words should be turn out the maniac Bullock, who set upon the Mayor unprovoked, who beat him with merciless protraction. Bulllock should be murdered! We should rise up and murder Bullock! Thank you very much.'

I watched this show earlier this year, and I absolutely loved it. I agree that it could've been better and the potential storylines were practically endless, but for whatever reason, I thought it was pretty great. And I'm not a big fan of Olyphant at all.

The third season slacked a bit, but I still enjoyed it. Wish it would've gotten to continue. It's sort of in the same vein as Carnivale for me...loved them both and they both ended prematurely.

I feel the exact same way except I'm glad they cut it off while it was still pretty good. I think they could have come up with another good storyline but I could also see it becoming unwatchable which I would have hated to see.

Yeah I looked up a bunch of the characters and realized this which is why I didn't mind how season 3 ended. It was still a pretty captivating storyline even without the all out brawl everyone was hoping for.

Would have been nice to see Al go after and finish Tolliver. Cy was fictional so killing him would be fine.

Would have been interesting to see Johnny's rage increase and explode after what Al did.

Would have been interesting once the Yankton cocksuckers started infesting Deadwood with laws and regulations.

No doubt someone would finally off Commissioner Jarry.

I'm giving it a rewatch with my roommate and we just finished season 1 and he seems to really enjoy it. Al's character is starting to peak and it makes me remember why I liked the show so much the first time.
