I just talked to my gunsmith buddy and I'm calm now. He doesn't see the price going up longterm. He said that it's just an AK and there are far too many of them to make them valuable. Plus, it's just a saiga. They are good but not great.

Furthermore, if I bought one for $700 tonight, I'd have to spend another $500 to convert it. I can get a much nicer rifle for $1200.

You can convert a saiga for more like $150 to $200. It's not the end of the world for the AK market but the saigas were a pretty good quality rifle for the price considering you got a genuine Russian receiver and cold hammer forged chrome lined barrel. That's why arsenal and many other companies used them as the base for their rifle builds.

Convert it how? Saigas are $600 and come converted. Not standard military looking AK converted, but converted to accept 30rd magazines and what not
