I was at that game, there were no fights that I saw but a big WVU redneck told some VT fans he was going to throw them off the upper deck if they stood up and cheered one more time he seemed serious

Not of fan of either team but living in VT territory I plan on going for the shits and giggles, and hopefully laughing at everyone that gets kicked out and arrested as long as it is not me

This would have been pretty exciting news in 2007. Not so much today.

I always get a kick out of this rivalry. In the recent years when they haven't played, I've seen VT fans on different boards claiming that they're glad they they don't play WVU anymore because it isn't safe on the WVU campus. That's Virginia Tech fans claiming that it isn't safe on the West Virginia campus. I make sure and always bite my tongue when I see this bit of irony.

I was also at that '05 game when I was in high school and it def goes both ways between the fan bases. However, I have never seen WVU throw batteries or bags of piss like VT, Louisville, and Pitt fans claim.

Also, the story about WV fans hitting Randy Shannon with a 55 gallon drum is embellished.

I hate WVU as much as the next person, but all fanbases have terrible fans, especially when it is a rivalry.

Yes, I am old, but back in the late 80s, early 90s, we had stuff thrown on us by WVu fans (tough luck Major) in Morgantown, but we also had all kinds of pennies thrown at us at NC State as they were going to the Copper Bowl (damn I am old).

But the WVu games at VT in the 2000s, I saw some over the top slurs, fingers, etc being given to WVu fans in their section.

There are a lot of great people who went to these schools, lives in these States and hopefully the nonsense can stop so we can get back on with the rivalry.

And if Hogs is out, bring back Nehlen one more time....what a great man, and coach...

We might have Rich back on the sidelines in 2017. Wouldn't that be something?

Not sure you got my point. Think of what made national news in the spring of 2007.

The Charlotte Sports Foundation (CSF) today announced it has secured a regular season college football game for the city of Charlotte pitting the University of Tennessee against West Virginia University. The Volunteers, from the Southeastern Conference, will face off against the Mountaineers, from the Big 12 Conference, on September 1, 2018 at Bank of America Stadium. The kickoff time and ticket information will be announced at a later date.

“We are very excited to announce that the University of Tennessee and West Virginia University will be playing in Charlotte to kickoff the 2018 college football season,” said Will Webb, Executive Director of the Charlotte Sports Foundation. “This will be a tremendous game featuring the SEC and Big 12. Both Tennessee and West Virginia have very active, supportive fan bases. And Charlotte is a premier location between the two schools. This game offers local, regional and national attraction. We are proud to bring this marquee matchup to the Queen City and look forward to hosting the Volunteer and Mountaineer teams and fans in Charlotte.”

"We are excited to formally announce our game with West Virginia in Charlotte, North Carolina in 2018," said Dave Hart, Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics at Tennessee. "Will Webb and his staff manage a first-class operation. Playing in this venue and in a key recruiting footprint was very appealing to us. The respective fan bases will create an electric atmosphere."

Both teams are to be applauded. More non conference games at neutral sites between big names is good for college football. Get an SEC to the Meadowlands for me and kick Penn State, Syracuse of Notre Dame's butt.
