The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a fricking joke.

"bigger"

Anyone who is familiar with any of those bands is familiar with YES. Besides maybe Pink Floyd for reasons that do not need to be explained. Yeah more of the general public know about the Beastie Boys, they were more recent. As far as a Hall of Fame centered around Rock and Roll, YES should be in it if groups like Beastie Boys, Public Enemy, and RHCP are in it.

"The Cars
Bon Jovi
Def Leppard
Stevie Ray Vaughn"

I find it amazing that these aren't in the HOF.

I've got no issue at all with the Beastie Boys being in. They deserve it imho. Someone questioned Heart being in which is ridiculous considering they're probably the greatest female rock group of all time.

As for Yes, I could go either way on them.

The Cure have actually been nominated but didn't get in.

At the MTV Icon Awards, Deftones performed "If Only Tonight We Could Sleep" at the ceremony. Still the best Cure cover I have ever heard.

The Cure were the only slam dunk of that small group mentioned. Motley Cue is somewhat debatable.

"The Guess Who"

Not necessarily saying they weren't good, there was just something about their sound I didn't like.

definitely deep purple & cheap trick, as mentioned in the OP.

to say yes doesn't belong in there is L O fricking L. so the average joe only knows "owner of a lonely heart"? big deal...alot of people don't know ANY songs by many of the artists already inducted, so not sure what the point was. besides, just a hunch, but i'm pretty sure the general public is kinda-sorta familiar with a song called "your move (i've seen all good people)", maybe even "roundabout" too...

We've talked about this before, but the problem is the HOF itself. It doesn't do a good job of telling the story of rock n roll. and putting in more 70s rock acts is not the solution, it's the problem.

I just don't see what puts Yes above other prog bands, namely Rush.

I like Yes. I got sidetracked by CP saying that they deserve to be in over Beastie Boys.

To be clear I wasn't saying that the Beastie Boys should not be in it. Just that if somebody like the Beastie Boys can be in it, YES should absolutely be in it

The influence and impact that the Beastie Boys have had on music is immeasurable.

Yes only appeals to a relatively small part of the population. Yeah, they also had an influence on later bands but it didn't span multiple genres and even culture beyond music like the Beasties did.

well, if i'm perfectly honest, i don't even know why we get sucked into wasting our energy talking about the RARHOF, 'cuz i think it's a joke. most of us here could probably do a more credible job, but our pockets aren't as deep (i'm presuming) as the flunkies currently in charge, which seems to be the main criteria to run the ship anyway. seriously, how many other HOFs get scrutinized as much as the RARHOF?

FIFY

But it does reflect the selection process of the Hall of Fame in that it has more to do with popularity than the actual music.

It isn't the Multiple Genre Spanning Hall of Fame. The majority of the inductees didn't span multiple genres. I'm not trying to take anything from the Beastie Boys. They were a great group and did a number of great things for the music culture. However, in a subject that is supposed to be the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, there is no reason the Beastie Boys should be in it and YES not be. Once again, not saying the Beastie Boys don't deserve any credit, but YES should've been in long before the Beastie Boys

yes might be under the radar these days, but they had a hell of a run for two decades, selling lots of albums & playing big venues. not that it matters, but at one time they sold out more shows at MSG than anyone else....times have changed, but to say they always had limited appeal might be short-changing them a bit...
