I don't think it's hyperbole to call it one of the biggest sporting tournaments. Happens every 4 years, certainly a big deal when it does, I'd put it up there as being one of the biggest.

ESPN3 has had a good bit of cricket on recently.

He didn't say biggest. He said the best which is very subjective.

Absolutely was one of the best in a while - a group stage for the ages. It's also obviously big.

That language often is hyperbole but some times it is appropriate. If that makes people like the OP grumpy, no one really GAF.

All subjective.

You're so open-minded, OP. You control the TV and what channels you watch, but for some reason you continue tuning in to ESPN.

Congrats on giving them ratings.

my fault. I'm stupid and can't read.

and you're right, you can't quantify 'best' in a situation like this, but no doubt it is one of the best.

The one point the talking heads that made sense to me was this. Youth soccer took off about 30 years ago or so. Those kids are now mid 30's and there are more that came later that are in their mid 20's. We played football during football season and baseball during baseball season. We only played soccer occasionally when the 2 mexican kids on our block wanted to laugh and kick our asses.

By my senior year in high school (1991) our high school began fielding a soccer team, but they had a hard time with it. Those poor bastards HAD to start and could rarely sub out. Weren't enough bench players.

I'm sure if someone wanted to, they could put together the worldwide number of viewers that would probably be #1 by a wide margin. The Olympics probably have more viewers, but that's also a cornucopia of sports, not one.

Don't worry I'm English, lived there most of my life and I don't understand it either.

That said, if you like playing drinking games to go with your sporting events, some cricket matches last 5 days.

It's a Sunday in the middle of July. What other other sporting events are generating enough content to fill 24/7 air time? I mean they created a stupid awards show coming up this week to fill time. If it were October and it was all soccer, all the time, then I might have a gripe. In July? Who gives a shite?

As someone who has played baseball my entire life, I have to say that I prefer watching soccer on television. I can't make it through an entire baseball game, even if my favorite team is playing.
