Lahm will be around for as long as he pleases. Bastian will play if his body can hold up. Khedira will still be quality.
Let's not forget that Reus and Gundogan both missed the World Cup. Plus, Draxler will be world class.
Just some of their depth:
Goalie:
Neuer
Adler
Ter Stegen
How old is Weidenfeller?
LB/RB:
Lahm
CB:
Hummels
Boetang
Holding, defensive, and box to box mids:
Khedira
Bastian
Gundogan
Kroos
Attacking mids, maybe even false 9's:
Reus
Gotze
Mueller
Draxler
Ozil
I am very jealous. Sure I forgot some studs.

Euro 2016 is no sure thing. France is pretty young, the Dutch are still real good, and Italy will always be Italy. Also, crazy stuff happens in the euros do to the smaller field of teams. This is the same tourney Greece and Denmark won in recent memory.
Also, while Germany of course has lots of talent, I'm not sure that they are all that young. Germany only has 10 players in its history to have reached 100 caps, and five of them play for the current team. They have another five players on the roster with over 50 caps. We should see some roster turnover in the next four years.
Also, their best player was arguably Neuer, who plays a pretty reckless style, and I'm not sure how well he'll age. Keepers tend to play pretty late, and Germany always has an awesome keeper, but Neuer just seems different. He comes off his line a ton. Even if he ages normally, his style is the kind that lends itself to letting up a weird goal and getting upset.

They're like the Spanish team in 2008/2010 (or the US all the time), where they have lots of guys with a ton of caps at a young age. I don't think there will be much turnover in 2016. 2018 can be a different story for Lahm, Schweinsteiger, and Podolski.
But even then, Hummels, Boateng, Mustafi, Ozil, Schurrle, Gotze, Reus, and Gundogan are under 30. Khedira will be 31.

Euro 2016 will feature 24 teams, expanded from the 16 team format previously used.
The group stages will probably be a bit more predictable with more teams.

I didn't know they were expanding to 24. Ugh. That sucks. 16 was perfect (8 was way too small, which was a huge factor in Denmark's title -- they only played two elimination games).
Germany will certainly be favorites, but I think we should still hold the tourney. They aren't THAT far ahead of the field... though they are German. Of course they'll make the semis.

24 is terrible.
16 for Euros and 32 for the WC should never be changed. I heard a rumor we may soon get 40 for the WC, and that would be awful.

It is obviously not cut in stone, but they are deserved favorites. They are losing almost no one. Klose almost surely, Bastian could slow down, and maybe guys like Per and Podolski (who does not really play much for Germany). Minimal roster turnover. They should honestly get better with Reus, Ilkay, and Draxler coming of age.
Germany has loaded keepers besides Neuer. Even if they did not have Neuer, they still likely would won it all. Adler is fantastic. Weidenfeller is an excellent keeper. I love ter Stegen, but he is awful in international play.

I think people are way too quick to discredit Spain after their lousy showing in the World Cup.
That was basically a last hurrah for Xavi, Iniesta (who should play in 2016), Villa and Casillas. They have as many young players as Germany, but they've yet to fully integrate them into the senior team.

Yeah, 32 is perfect. Only a few weaker teams. It is not like we are leaving many at home. The only teams I would have liked to see make it would have been Ukraine and Sweden in 2014.

Yeah, but teams know how to counter the tika taka.

I hear that Blatter wants to go to 40 teams to get more Asian and African votes.
Posted on 7/14/14 at 1:34 pm to itawambadog
So 8 groups of 5 teams, thus making the Cup even longer? frick Blatter.

Asia needs to be rewarded for their consistent mediocrity and Africa for their abysmal qualification process
Posted on 7/14/14 at 10:24 pm to joey barton
It's a shame that Egypt didn't have a better shot at going to the cup. Asian teams need to start performing better before any expansion though. It looks like expansion would add another week in the tournament. I doubt the club teams would like that since many are about to start with their preseason friendlies.
