I am going to go out on a limb and say that Gadot will have has much screen time as Giamatti had in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

And people will bitch and complain why they didn't see more Wonder Woman in a film titled Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.

This.

And even fans must realize that, and it's in this case only, there's only one reason Wonder Woman is somewhat important:

quote:

Wonder Woman

Not because she's a great character. Not because she's deep. It's because she's a woman. It's sad, but it's the truth. Important. Not popular or "Recognizable."

until this thread, i have never heard anybody claim wonder woman was anything other than a secondary/tertiary character

Explain this...

She's number 2 of the most powerful superheroes in mainstream DC Comics and she has beaten Superman a few times before. She has identical power feats as him. She's just as strong as him. They're dating right now in the comics and have their own series together.

Have you never heard of Lynda Carter's Wonder Woman?

She'll have the same amount of screen time as black widow in Iron Man 2 did and she's definitely a secondary character compared to Wonder Woman.

yeah and that aired before/around my birth

for all of this supposed popularity, she hasn't exactly gotten a reboot on the big screen

i mean they've already rebooted spider-man and essentially rebooted x-men. hulk has had 2 stand alone movies. gambit and/or deadpool are about to get movies. catwoman and elektra have gotten a movie made. punisher has had 2 in modern times

wonder woman?

No. You can't read. My argument was that historically she is more popular and iconic than any member of The Avengers, sans Captain America.

So because she hasn't gotten her own movie yet, she can't possibly be among the more popular superheroes. Brilliant logic. I think you need to remember who owns DC and, subsequently, their movie rights.

unless there is some historical issue with ownership rights, it basically says taht

popular comic book heroes get movies to cash in on that popularity

NON popular comic book heroes get movies these days

I would agree, but I am willing to bet the house a Johansson lead Widow film would outdraw a Gadot lead Wonder Woman film right now.

Or explain this:

LINK

quote:

Wonder Woman posted a nice debut sales number and actually increased with the second issue. It appeared that DC might have actually figured out how to make Wonder Woman a strong seller with the New 52. Then things got ugly. Wonder Woman lost 21,385 readers between issue #2 and issue #4. The title then lost an additional 13,091 readers between issue #4 and issue #12. Given the rate of decline, Wonder Woman will probably settle into the low 40,000 unit range to the high 30,000 range during the course of the second year of the New 52.

These numbers have to be disappointing to DC as well. Part of the mission statement of the New 52 was to establish some of the other characters like Wonder Woman as pillars of the DCU and give them broader appeal. However, it appears that Wonder Woman will be posting similar sales numbers in the second year of the New 52 as she did in the year prior to the New 52 relaunch.

2012, but 2013 numbers:

quote:

63 Wonder Woman 22 $2.99 DC 35,539

LINK

So her solo title is sitting below 40,000 per month. That's below non "History Was Made Characters" like:

Batgirl, Hawkeye, Nightwing, Deadpool and Aquaman.

She's also behind RollTide's SECOND TIER CLASSIFICATION of Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, and Thor.

And Spider-Man and Wolverine.

She's the 63 highest selling comic book, but the 3 most popular? Math is fun!

There's a difference between recognition and popularity. For instance, virtually everyone recognizes Osama Bin Laden's face when they see it on TV. Does that mean he's a popular person with everyone? No. Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman are easily the most recognizable superheroes on the planet along with Spider-Man. To deny this is to deny fact.

You can't "Fact" something that can't essentially be proven. My guess is more people, RIGHT NOW, know who Iron Man and Wolverine are over Wonder Woman.

The only reason Wonder Woman was popular was Linda Carter and the Female Empowerment. And she hasn't really been popular since. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Mother of frick son. Which explains why hundreds of millions of dollars of Wonder Woman related merchandise is sold each year?

I'll give you this, if you are trolling, which I am damn near praying you are, then you got me.

If not, well shite.

fact you say...fact?

wonder woman WAS popular...in the distant past

and we're not dealing with contemporary and irl persons. we are dealing with made up people who are nothing more than creative commodities. their popularity determines their recognizably

again, if she was so recognizable, why hasn't anybody cashed in on it? that's a simple question

remember, these are nothing more than commodities and the market sets their value

you have already expanded your argument from popularity (implying contemporary statement) to a "historical" one
