If you can hardwire from your current router to an Access Point, do that for sure.

A repeater/extender doesn't require a wired ethernet connection, but it will cut your bandwidth in half. And wireless already runs in half-duplex mode - ie, sends OR receives, not both at the same time.

As for an actual repeater/extender, just go to newegg or amazon and search the ones with the best review/cost ratio. Neither Access Points or Extenders are expensive really for home use.

Get a Ubiquity professional WAP. Great range and comes with power injector to use POE.
