Schurrle is not a #9 so he isn't a real option. Playing him basically means we go ala Spain from a few years back with five mids and no striker up top.

Not an end all scenario when you you consider Cesc, Oscar, Hazard, Schurrle, Willian as your five most likely in that scenario.

I think I completely contradicted myself as I typed out those thoughts

Honestly, we have PLENTY of money to spend and still qualify for FFP. We should just rescue Balotelli from Milan.

"Romelu was always very clear with us with his mentality and his approach was not highly motivated to come to a competitive situation with Chelsea. He wanted to play for Chelsea but he clearly wanted to be first-choice striker, but for a club of our dimension it is very difficult to promise to a player."

"That reduced, immediately, his desire to come to us. After that Everton came with an important offer and as I always say, because it's the reality of our club and we want to be inside the Financial Fair Play rules, it's always in the thoughts of the board. The important thing is that he's happy and things work well for him, he's a good kid and has his way of thinking and organising his career."

I don't get the freak out over Lukaku. Is it because he looks like Drogba? The dude has less technical ability than just about anyone I can think of in the EPL. There's a reason Everton was the biggest club to make an offer. We don't compete with Everton. We compete with the Madrid's, Bayern's, Barca's, and City's of the world. I would have loved to have seen Romelu grow into something special at Chelsea but he obviously wants a cush guaranteed spot at a smaller club. Peace dude. Good luck with the trophies.

Lukaku responded to Jose's comments saying "I didn't want to sit on the bench for 10 years."

Jose: "Three strikers is fundamental in a squad and we have three strikers; Fernando, Didier and Diego so one of them is not (going) for sure."

Great and he scores more goals than just about anyone I can think of in the EPL.

I agree Randy, bad piece of business in my opinion. It really doesn't make sense, b/c it seems Jose really like big strong strikers and that is exactly what Lukaku is. This will come back to haunt Chelsea (although Abramovich will just offer 500 mil to get him back if he wants )

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if we bought him back eventually... Seems like an Uncle Roman move...

I was just watching the "top 10 goals" of last season on NBCsN and #10 was Fabian Delph's goal against us. Tons of credit to him but what I saw was a midfield that didn't recover. Matic got abused on a nice move and then compounded things with a slow recovery. Ramires was the real culprit though by playing a poor ball that started it all. He then went down and was slow to get up. Once up, he literally trotted back at half speed. This was a big goal to give up in the grand scheme of things. The question is...who are we going to have in our midfield? With Lamps gone (and possibly going on loan to Man City from the MLS ), who do you think are our midfielders?

If we play the 4-3-3 you are looking at Matic-Oscar-Fabregas with Mikel, Ramires, and MvG in rotation/bench.
For the 4-2-3-1 it will be relatively the same with Hazard/Willian/Schürrle in play as the wide midfielders.

Either way, they look to be a very strong core for our team.

I wouldn't mind seeing Willian at holding mid either. I like him better there than attacking.

Ramires played poorly last year but in other years he played well. He is a good player for rotational work.

Not sure why Willian would play holding mid when he is one of our top attacking wingers.

In other news, Romeu has been sent on a season long loan to Stuttgart. This puts us at the 17 foreign players max.

Jose mad.

Said he thought we were playing a friendly but the German ref was running a circus, instead.

Meh if we hadn't gotten a ridiculous red card and been playing with 10 men that goal never happens.
