Need help: Dell studio xps laptop keyboard stopped working

I don't venture over to this board much but I am in a big bind. My laptop keyboard has stopped responding. So I restarted my laptop and still no response so I can't login. The mouse pad and mouse key still work.
Is there a way I accidentally locked it and if not how can I troubleshoot the issue. I'm working on my thesis so this is kind of important so ill greatly appreciate any help someone can give me.
note: I did Google on my phone but didn't really find anything good

Press each and every key a couple times. One of them might be stuck.
If that doesn't fix it, you might have to download the service manual to help you reseat the cable.

uninstall your keyboard drivers and reboot

Restart the computer and press F2 (or whatever function key gets you into bios. I think F2 is for dell.) Just F2 F2 F2 the whole time. If no response, then it has nothing to do with your OS.
Either the KB connection is unseated or fried. Then as suggested above, google your laptop and see how to replace the keyboard. Keyboards are usually 4 or so screws on the bottom of the laptop and then you pry it open. That way you can check if it's connector got unseated.
If you are in a dire position with your thesis, run to a store and grab a usb keyboard for now.

if that doesn't work try using a usb keyboard as a work around

Read this prior discussion. The technique by bamabenny resets the BIOS on bootup.
ILikeLSUToo explains why it works.
If it was a temporary problem, this technique may clear it up. If the keyboard is intermittent or hard down, only replacing it will cure the problem.
