He said he's taken it apart 10 times to make sure it wasn't kinked and still not working.

It's real easy to damage it, I pinched mine when I first repaired one. Didn't damage it though. It's really common when repairing the screens. Maybe you just got a bum screen, I just don't know. There's not much troubleshooting you can do without another screen.
