What's the point of having all the players walk out on the pitch holding hands with children they don't know and who don't know them?

I'm thinking of this from a players perspective and it would have to be weird. You're all jacked up for a game and then stuck holding hands with some 7 year old that you don't know and could really care less about at this particular moment.

This all seems a bit contrived and well, weird.

Enlighten me soccer aficionados - why does this practice need to continue?

Just a reminder that kids are the future of the game.

It also is a great way to prevent fights in the tunnel between players that are jacked up for the game.

It's like Goodell walking around with firefighters and people in the military. Fans won't boo and throw shite when you're surrounded by cute kids.

Years ago when it started, it corresponded to some ´save the children´, ´protect the children´, and ´educate the children´ campaigna (I think it was UEFA which started this, and not FIFA).

It´s never gone away, and as many have said in this thread, it´s a shrewd way to keep the sides calm when side by side, and the pre match adrenalin is flowing.
