Nah - he was brought over for a 10 game, pre-MLS loan a few years ago. He scored a few goals in some friendlies or cup games or something. Then when the Bundesliga resumed, he was up put top by himself in a 4-5-1, which shockingly, didn't produce results.

He washed out at Bayer (the aspirin company, not Bayern, the region of Germany) Leverkusen. I wouldn't say he's mediocre. The fact that he was satisfied playing in MLS and not proving himself in the world's top leagues is a reflection of his character. I'm sure Klinsmann views it the same way.
