The scammer sends an email to you with a faked paypal site link. You enter in your paypal password and now the scammer has it. Or they fake an email saying that your paypal has been credited with $X, which is too much for the item, and they'll ask for you to Western Union the remainder.

He'll let you use PayPal but tell them he never received shipment and they tam the money back..

truly there are a lot of ways this scam could break....
but i think the lesson is you should probably cease using the internet and put someone else in charge of your financials ASAP if you genuinely had to ask if the guy on craiglist asking you to ship your PS4 to nigeria is actually a scam or not.

The ones I experienced send a fake paypal email saying they received funds but will hold them till the other party confirms they have received it.
