Before online play RPGs were the best way to waste away summer days...if you could not go outside of course.
I'm sure i'm missing a few but these were the outstanding ones to me.

Grandia 1&2 are the only games on my list i no longer own 
Legend of Legaia was the reason i bought my first gameshark
This year i have beaten Lunar 1, 2, Legaia and Chrono Cross...i was bit by the nostalgia bug

I have several PS1/2 RPGs on my list to play. I never got to play them as a kid and picked them up. I'm about to be on the second disk of Grandia and I'm about halfway through Persona: Revelations. Good games.

In RPGs I want story over graphics, and those PS1/PS2 RPGs had great storys to get wrapped up in.

Legend of Legaia had some of the hardest boss battles of any RPG I've ever played. I too thought it had one of the best battle formats ever.
Since, we've delved into the realm of. PS1 games I'll throw out Alundra, it was basically a Zelda clone for the PS1, hard as shite though.
