You hear that 4LSU2, you white boot wearing Benedict Arnold. No mention of East Side high in the great school discussion. No wonder you're so bitter.

That poster most likely wasn't breathing when I ran shite on Millhaven.

Grew up in Monroe and left for college and it was the best decision I've ever made. Monroe has turned into a huge drug infested town especially for high schoolers and ULM students. I have seen many friends go down the wrong path within the past 7 years. I will never move back especially if i have kids to raise. But im not praising Lafayette either though..hate lafayette..if you are going to move to SLA move to the Northshore in my opinion

I think we can all agree on one thing, though. Baton Rouge fricking sucks.

The only nice thing about Baton Rouge is St. George.

"did not want to raise my children there"

I would rather have my children cuss at 11-12 than be addicted to drugs at age 19 and have DWIs out the arse

I don't really care much for St. George either unless you work out there too. Most of the subdivisions have really bland architecture, no trees, and no sidewalks. Traffic is a nightmare. I mean, the Highland Road area may be one of the most beautiful in the state, but it's impassible for long stretches of the day. The area out near the Amite River in the back of Shenandoah is gorgeous, but it's so far from everything.

I prefer Old Goodwood, the LSU Lakes, and the Garden District

As for the OP, you can't go wrong with Lafayette or the Northshore, two best areas in the state to raise a family. New Orleans is the best city, but it's not exactly family, budget, and car suspension friendly.

New Orleans is a ghetto slum. I'd rather bland architecture to that place.

It all depends on what you want out of life and what you don't. If food, funk and jazz music, gorgeous architecture, and a party culture is worth it to you to suffer shitty streets (better layout than BR but in much worse condition), expensive housing, high crime (granted it's just as bad in BR), shitty schools (just as bad in BR), and higher taxes then go for it. It's all in what you want compared to what you don't. For me, if my career wasn't there, Baton Rouge wouldn't offer enough of what I want to justify me staying there.

I wouldn't want to live in Baton Rouge or New Orleans. I got family that live in both cities and I don't even like visiting there. New Orleans is a city that peaked back in the 50s now it's just Detroit South.

It's better than it used to be, but it's still rife with issues. I think the Lafitte Greenway and the new Medical district are really going to help a lot.

BR has some exciting projects coming up as well with the Nicholson Corridor, Water Campus, replacement of the old married student housing with mixed use developments, streetcar line, redesign of government street, IBM, ect.

I think in 10 years, both cities will be much better than they are at present.

However, If I had my choice of living and working anywhere in the state, it would probably be Lafayette or the Northshore.

I hope you're right. It's good for the state that New Orleans and Baton Rouge try to be at the top of their game.

I agree two nicest areas in the state right now. I remember when it wasn't always that way though. Used to be nothing but country on the Northshore and Lafayette was a very rural town that went stagnate after the oil bust in the 80s.
