It could be because it's not on the table, depending on what you believe. I don't think Thompson nor Wiggins have had their cards put on the table yet. I would imagine the moment Thompson from the Warriors or Wiggins are finally placed there, it's a done deal.

As of right now, those three are playing who will blink first. Will Golden State or Cleveland give in and put up their star trade piece, and if so, who does it first? Or does Minnesota finally realize they may be looking at their best offers right now and jump on one?

If I'm Minnesota, I take an offer by the end of August. The longer you wait, the less you are going to get back because now you're delving into the timespan that new team will have with Love. There won't be a desperation from either GS or Cleveland unless the Cavs youth gets the best of them, which I doubt happens

So does Monroe push the envelope now and work out something with Phoenix? If you're SVG, one of those three have to go and it's obviously not Drummond. Smith can't start at the 3 and I would imagine you would get a very Grumpy Gus if either Smith or Monroe came off the bench

I don't even know what to think anymore.

I want this to be over, soon.

My heart wants them to keep Monroe.

My brain wants them to keep Smith.

I think the better basketball move is to trade Monroe...Smith is a much better 4 and Monroe would probably get more in return. IMO SVG would like to actually see what he was in camp before making any decisions, but he might not get that luxury.

Woj also stated he thinks Josh Smith is "dying to be coached" and wants to play for SVG, so it might not be a stretch to have Smith be the 6th man if he truly feels that way...although I continue to hate the idea of their three best players being unable to be on the floor at the same time.

That was my line of thinking too, and that second part of

Would be a lot more beneficial to keep him. Even if he wants to be coached by SVG, I could still see his moodiness becoming a problem if he comes off the bench

Woj on Josh Smith and SVG

quote:

I really believe that Josh Smith is really going to benefit from Stan. And I think Josh, in talking to people around Josh, I think Josh believes that. I think Josh Smith is dying to be coached and wants someone who he has great respect for and wants someone who isn't afraid to challenge him. Everybody I've ever talked to, for the most part, loved playing for Stan.

Stan is like the tough teacher you had that you appreciate more when he's gone. You know, JJ Redick has told me so many times, "I don't know where I'd be in the NBA if it wasn't for Stan Van Gundy." Now, did JJ feel that way his first few years when Stan didn't want to play him and JJ came in as a one-dimensional player and Stan demanded that he expand his game, and until he did he wasn't going to play? No. He couldn't stand him at the time. But looking back and, you know, later at his time in Orlando, JJ Redick has a tremendous appreciation for Stan.

And I know Dwight Howard really does. He became a first-team All NBA player there. An all-defensive player. And I think as Dwight went away, especially when he went to LA for a year, I think he has tremendous appreciation for Stan.

Uhh...I think Dwight fits in with this boat:

I don't think you appreciate someone you want fired

Yep.

Conley is 1 of the most underrated player in the nba. Outside of the top PGs like CP, Westbrook, Parker, and Curry... I would pretty much take Conley over the rest. Floor leader and a true PG, high bball IQ, great D, and steps up when they need it and is clutch. Huge Conley fan.

Westbrook is essentially healthy rose without the long range shot and rose is more willing to differ despite being the best scoring option on his team.

Huh?

Westbrook and Rose are very similar from long range. Both arent that good at it.

And I agree that Rose is more willing to defer... but couldnt that be used as a negative against him? If Westbrook was on a team without KD or LBJ, people wouldnt be saying he needs to pass the ball. Hes 1 of the best players in the NBA, it just so happens hes playing with the clear cut #2 guy in KD. You put him on any other team in the NBA he instantly becomes the #1 and go to option.

And I cant make a judgement call on Rose because we have no idea what type of player hes gonna be when he comes back. Or if he can stay healthy. Too many ifs with him right now IMO. 2 years ago, he was a clear cut top 3 PG in the league. But he has played 49games in the last 3 seasons, and just 10 in the last 2 seasons. Too many questions about him to sit here and try and predict where he ranks among the PGs.

All of the media thought the Grizz were throwing away their season when they traded Rudy Gay away, but instead they made it to the WCF in large part because Conley's new increased role.

He kept them afloat this past season when Marc went down.

Dude is the definition of getting better every season.

Yep completely agree. Just because a player is a 3rd option or whatever doesn't mean he can't step up and become a go to player for a team.

And yea Conley is 1 of those few nba players that just steadily improve a little each year. Great player. Most guys make a big jump between seasons or whatever. Conley just adds a little bit to his game each season. And he's evolved into a great player.

Proof that Conley has improved and turned his contract into a bit of a steal: LINK
