Can KMart play some at the 3?
As long as the team isn't stacked 1-3 you can certainly run a 3 guard lineup of Holiday/Evans/KMart and put KMart on the worst of the 3 opposing wings/guards. Especially if you had Asik and AD roaming the lane.

If we were to get Buddinger, couldn't that shore up the 3
Maybe, but I wouldn't count on it. Take a look at his career. LINK Never had a 15 or better PER (15 means you're a league average player). Career 3P% is 35.7%, which is on the borderline between bad and adequate. Has an injury history as troubling as Gordon or Jason Smith.
The hesitation on this deal isn't about Martin as much as it is also taking on the 2/$10 Budinger has left. And that's also what makes the deal seem realistic.

If I'm the Pels, I push for LRMAM as the cap filler w/ Martin. Mbah a Moute is one of the better wing defenders in the league. Not a guy you can give heavy minutes to because he doesn't give you much of anything on offense, but defensively, he is everything we hoped Aminu would turn into. Of course, doing so may push the deal too heavily in New Orleans' favor.
