quote:

“Part of Republicans’ problems and, frankly, to tell you the truth, some in the evangelical Christian movement I think have appeared too eager for war,” Paul, a likely 2016 presidential candidate, told the Christian Broadcasting Network. “I think you need to remember that [Jesus] was the ‘Prince of Peace.’”

I think there is lots of truth to that statement.

evangelical Christian movement

Nice stretch with no supporting facts.

Should I report to the camps now or wait until they send the trucks to pick me up?

I think that is greatly over simplification on his part and plays to ignorance. I don't think war is the answer to all problems but the powerful sitting on the sideline while two peoples fight to the death wouldn't exactly fit jesus's love for one another either.

If Rand Paul said this on CBN (which apparently he did), then there is no chance he will ever get my vote. Period.

Thanks Rand, for that diversion from the root problem. You'll go far in politics with that approach.
Unfortunately, for America, it's that very approach in politics that has us in endless war and debt. Your dad must be so proud.

Hell, I didn't know that Rand was even a Christian.

I love his consistency in calling out hypocrisy on both sides.

Republicans aren't alone in their taste for war.

I doubt if Jesus would have much use for either party. I'm not Jesus and I can't stand either one.

Message to Rand: Hey Rand...Jesus also said that "my kingdom is not of this world". I suspect that he meant that it's a kingdom of Spirit. You taking up the mantle of Parson?

If you want to be our preacher...that's a good sermon. If you want to be our President...then you are not hired to defend and promote the next world...but THIS NATION. Here and now. If you can't do that job without sullying your Faith...then don't run for the job.

So rape, murder and pillaging is fine with you? The very censorship and destruction of the WHOLE AND TRUE Gospel of Jesus by Mohammad's Ideological Caliphate? Turn our cheek and take martyrdom, would be your Presidential example? I'm sure all the young girls over there waiting for genital surgery, will rejoice in your victory.

We are all sick of war; it consumes the souls and energy of our BEST...while the slackers and heathen do their thing and could care less. But did not Jesus say that "he would not return in peace...but with a sword". There are things worse than war.

Stick to defending and promoting the Constitution, what's left of it. You're getting drunk. On power.

I have had a healthy dose of disdain for this guy, for a long time. It grows stronger each time I read or hear another of his asinine remarks. What makes him think he knows what Jesus would think? I would prefer he keep his " thought provokin" thoughts to himself. He is beginning to sound nuttier than his dad

That quote represents what both Rand and his father represent and it's what I admire about them. And it's why I've said Rand will never win the nomination. Unless of course he sells out. And the nomination for the Republican Party candidate has proven to be impossible for an outsider to win. The comments here against his quote will be what he hears from the mainstream of the party.

What would be interesting is if he ran as a 3rd party candidate and did so early on organizing on all 50 states. My guess is he'd get a sizable following. The problem he'd face is his backers are not geographic like Wallace for instance which allowed him to carry states but instead like Perot where he'd get a good percentage but not necessarily carry states.

If you follow the links here is the entire quote

quote:

When people come to me and they’re lobbying for ratcheting up some sort of bellicose policy towards one country, even if it's a bad country, I tell them that and when I read the New Testament, that when I read about Jesus, I don’t see him involved, he wasn’t really involved with the wars of his days. And, in fact, people rebuked him for not being [what] they wanted. They wanted somebody to stand up to the Romans. He stood up in a different sort of way, but he didn’t organize coalitions and guerrilla bands and arm them. Now I'm not saying that you shouldn't have people who want to defend against evil, bad forces around the world, but I think you need to remember that he was the prince of peace, you know, we’re talking about "blessed are the peacemakers," not "blessed are the war-makers."

I'm tired of this guy's self-righteousness. If you believe in voter Id or think drugs should be illegal, you're a racist. If you think America must militarily intervene from time to time in situations, you hate Jesus. Ridiculous.

Rand is right and the truth he speaks is going to make a lot of people uncomfortable. As bad as the republicans are with war, this doesn't excuse the abomination of a foreign policy the Obama administration has put out.

Surely Rand isn't suggesting a sane foreign policy which focuses on legitimate American interests.

The media will get rid of him soon enough if that's the case.
