Apparently the World Cup is a little too convenient.

This is the full episode but you only need to watch the first 5 or 6 minutes.

Who is the bald guy on Fox? Is he for real?

Is it crazy of me to think FIFA, the video game, plays a big role in the gaining of the World Cup's popularity in America? I know my new interest was almost solely sparked by it. It's probably the best multiplayer sports game out there, and it's easy for people who think that they don't like soccer to get into.

It certainly plays a massive part. Gives familiarity, allows for new fans to find players they like, and is fun for lots of people.

I have several of these friends.
Hell, our HS soccer team was pretty much made up of these types 10 years ago

I don't know either of them. I kept hoping it was some kind of satire, but I guess not.

His interview with Paul Rudd was very good as well, in this episode!

NCAAF is how I became a fan of football when I moved to the US. So that doesn't surprise me.

I was waiting for something funny ... (Sigh)

not just that, don't discount the effect of having 500 channels nowadays. I would catch English premier league highlight shows and matches on FSN. that's how I came to like Wolves.
also i'll give some credit to the CONCACAF "Hex" format for qualifying... it's easy to follow, and the games being on TV (and the fact that we qualify every time now) helps to hook fans.
i'm gonna use an analogy, since I remember US qualifying games on TV dating back to the summer of 2000 for a 2002 qualifier in Guatemala, in the unassailable Mazatenango. I believe we got a 1-1 draw where most teams had lost. my point is that it's like pounding a rock. when it splits, it's not because of the 100th game, but rather because of that and the 99 that came before it.

All the dumbfricks who think FIFA has it in for the USA, would do well to heed this quote.
EVERYBODY has their FIFA conspiracy stories, founded or not.
