You are correct about the first part -- but it's more than "feel good" legislation.

It also serves as a law enforcement tool -- which is why the La. Sheriff's Association opposed the bill that would have done away with concealed carry permits.

Example: If a cop finds a gang member carrying a concealed gun without a permit, they can take that person, and the gun, off the streets --- without waiting for him to use that gun to commit a robbery or a homicide.

Funny this was bumped, big KR got his today.

Damn quick turnaround time from the old antiquated system.

My pops did the online app, electronic fingerprints the next day, paid online three days later and received his in 7 business days. That's solid efficiency by state employees.

Guess it was worth his long wait for prints that day. I mailed in digital prints done at the local PD, guess that's why my turnaround will be 7-8 weeks.

I know this is an old post but I wanted to make everyone aware that if you get the 5 year permit you do not have to do a NICS check when you buy a gun. You simply show your permit and pay for the firearm.

Lifetime permit holders will always have to undergo a NICS check. So keep that in mind.

That's news to me -- but then again, lots of stuff is news to me.

This would be great.
I will call LSP tomorrow a.m. for confirmation.

I know there was a push to tighten the background checks, which would enable La. CCW permits holders to bypass the NICS check. But I never heard that it was accomplished.
