How do we know asik will resign? That would be the worst if he signed somewhere else and we rented for 1 year at the cost of a first rounder. Is he unrestricted after 1 year or restricted?

Unrestricted

However, I have a feeling he'll resign with us if the idea is that we'll be pairing him long-term with AD and that he'll have a defined role in our lineup.

Houston fricked him with the Howard signing, so I think that makes him appreciate a good situation more. Especially when it's clear they're not going to replace you with the Bigger Better Thing.

I saw you post this last night. What's your point?

So Zach Lowe's article pretty much confirms the 4-19 protection that people were giving on twitter last night. He also had better things to say about it than Kevin Pelton but didn't like it as much as people on here do.

The 4-19 is a fail on Dell's part. But it is what it is. 1st Round picks just aren't that valuable to us.

How is it a fail? The pick will most likely be between 14-20 or so. You probably aren't getting a player of Asik's caliber that late in the draft, and if you do get lucky, it'll still take a couple years minimum for him to be a legit starter.

You really don't want protection of less than the 10th pick.

We would be drafting in the 10th spot this year without about as disastrous an injury season as possible, so I don't think top 10 protection will make a difference vs top 3.

Ideally, sure. But realistically speaking, nearly our entire team would have to be injured most of the season for us to have a top 10 pick next year.

What are the odds of that happening two years in a row?
