Define "overpaid".
Well they did say they went in increments of $1 million, so I'm assuming full max and they'd rather an acceptable trade. How far under full max their threshold is, is a guessing game. I saw comments about SVGs statements from a sports writer that thought it was significant he used the word "value" multiple times when talking about Monroe and that it might indicate him being viewed as an asset and SVG thinking trade.

Also, if Monroe signs that offer sheet, Detroit's not trading shite.
He doesn't have to sign it immediately for you to make him your offer. It was widely known that we offered Tyreke 4/$44 and we still worked out a trade.

Cleveland pushed on deal centered on No. 1 pick for Kevin Love, but his refusal to re-sign w/ Cavs has killed talks, sources tell Yahoo.

It's an interesting calculus for him.
I'm not entirely convinced Monroe/Drummond can work, but Monroe is a better player than Smith. Same time, Smith is better than he showed last year and makes more sense to me as a Marion type 4 next to Drummond and Monroe will get them a better return in a trade. They have plenty of cap space going forward, so they won't be capped out even if they keep all three for the time being.
If they don't want to pay Monroe above a certain level (which is weird because clean cap sheet), they have to wait if they want to move Smith. Worst case for them is dumping Smith for peanuts, then watching one a-hole gm sign him to a max offer sheet.
If they believe in Monroe/Drummond then none of this matters at all.

I don't feel comfortably paying Monroe 13+ a year, which is what it would take.

I'm with you.
It feels like Monty wants Twin Towers and I think he has the ear of management. If that's what they really want and believe in, it wouldn't kill me to see them overpay for Monroe. Not my preference though.
Phoenix seems like a good bet for Monroe. Tons of cap space, tons of assets, a bit of a hole in the middle. Dragic, Bledsoe, Monroe with all that shooting is an interesting team.

Hometown discount. 14 mil per.

Well something is actually happening:
Tyson Chandler and Ray Felton to Dallas. Not sure what the Mavs are sending back, if anything.

Always did like him since he was at Miami.

I'm surprised the Knicks are looking to pick up long term salary. I thought for sure they'd have tried to retain cap space for 2015. Dare I dream Eric Gordon for Amare?

Calderon is a much safer bet than felton due to him being possibly in the pokey. He's still effective.
Dalembert is a downgrade but he's servicable

I'd be all for that. Amare is still a solid backup big. Looks like we'd have to include another $3m or so, but it would allow us to let Smith walk and focus on a SF with the MLE. Maybe use it to overpay a guy to sign a one year deal and have quite a bit of cap space next season.

Ain't he making like 23 mil?
Posted on 6/25/14 at 4:40 pm to LosLobos111
Yeah, and sending out up to $19.6m, you can take back outgoing salary + $5m, so we'd need to send out a bit over $18m (Gordon is making a shade under $15m).

Ah ok
That works for me then

If LeBron and Melo end up in Houston, James Harden could end up on the Knicks, ESPN’s Chris Broussard reports in his Insider piece on LeBron’s preferred destinations.
Here’s how it would work:
Houston is one of the five teams on LeBron’s list of preferred destinations.
If the Rockets cleared enough cap space to sign James by trading Jeremy Lin and Omer Asik, they would then try to execute a sign-and-trade with the Knicks for Anthony. Broussard reports that Harden would be a part of such a transaction. And the Knicks would be open to accepting Harden.
Writes Broussard:
"A lot has been made about the possibility of James teaming up with Anthony, and few teams in the league have a better chance of pulling that off than Houston.

I don't want LeBron in the division, he might actually get Melo and Dwight to live up to their potential.

After all the leaks and bullshite from Broussard leaked from the CP3 camp, I'm not buying this.
It's LeBron wish-casting that the Rockets dump Harden for Melo, NOT the Rockets showing an interest in doing so.

I still don't think he goes to the west tbh
