Payton will be the best true PG out of this draft. ( I consider Smart and Exum more of shooting guards than a PG.)
There are PLENTY of really good PGs that have issues shooting. Hell, there are plenty of good players overall that have issues shooting.
If you can get to the rim at will and create for yourself and for others, it doesnt make the shooting issue nearly as big. And Payton can do that. And he knows hes not a good shooter from deep, which is why he rarely shoots it from deep.
Payton was also the only player in college basketball to average at least 15ppg, 5assists, 5 rebs, and 2 steals in the 2013 season. And he did it again this past season, averaging 19ppg, 6rebs, 5 assists, and 2 steals. He also won the award that goes to the Nations Top Defender.
And, even though hes a JR, hes only 20 years old. Hes just 3 weeks older than Joel Embiid, and just 2 weeks older than Smart. Hes very very young. And still growing. He was 5'10 his SR year, 6'1 when he signed, and now hes 6'4 with a 6'8 wingspan.
Hes going to be a very good NBA player. And is 1 of those PGs that can score, assist / create for himself and others, rebound, and play great D. A "do it all" type of PG.
