Is anyone able to get the “secure exam proctor” for classes starting next week?
I’m trying to figure out if it is because of the security settings on my computer, or because the class hasn’t officially started.
I get error, “proctoring extension ID is blocked by the administrator.”

@quintus Chat with there support. They should be able to help.
Good idea working on it now, rather than right before an exam.

Does anyone have info on ISDS705 with Lin? I looked at the syllabus and it says only 3 proctored exams on specific days for your grade. I was wondering how difficult the exams are??? Is this feasible for a good grade...

Super helpful! Thanks! Any suggestions on Vines for FIN 701?
I just wrapped up with Vines and got a B. I haven't seen many posts talking about him lately, but some of the older posts had him as the go-to Fin professor. Personally, I thought he was a great guy and very knowledgeable, but his course is based on 4 word documents that he wrote and it can be extremely confusing. He also doesn't seem very interested in teaching.
An example of how he answers a question would be-Student asks "I don't understand how (d/(d+e)*e(s))+t) is calculated in excel." Vines style answer: "equation is wrong." Seriously.
The class is laid back. There's really no due dates or required attendance other than the exams. The whole class is just 4 exams, one every week and a half or so, but be prepared to learn a lot on your own and on youtube.

PresJohnTyler,
I had a similar experience with Vines class. While I really liked him personally, I found myself lost often in his class.

Hello, Im looking into applying for this program and had a few questions.
What is the difference between a program "concentration" and "specialization"?
I am a bit torn between the 3 program areas: Project Management, Finance, Data Analytics... does anyone have any insight on the classes for these specializations?
Also I was curious how forgiving this program is for students who were not business/econ majors?
thanks

Just speaking from my experience. You're fine with no previous experience but will have to work a little harder catching up than someone who has taken recent courses in statistics, finance, accounting etc. No big deal. As far as the concentrations you're considering; we all have to take the 7 core courses anyway so just take them and feel out Finance, DA, and do a PM elective and go from there. The difference between specialization and concentration is tricky because it depends on the school. LSUS requires a concentration to be three additional courses based on the subject where a specialization only requires two plus any elective. It won't make a ton of difference on a resume unless you're shooting for a job specifically in that field; i.e. a financial analyst resume would look great with MBA with a concentration (or specialization) in Finance but a Project Manager Job would look fine if it just says M.B.A. Just my opinion.

Hey yall I need some advice.
Just started in Summer 2. Taking ECON 705 and MKT 701. In fall 1 I'll be taking ISDS 705 and MADM 701.
My question; I need a light course load for Fall 2. Any suggestions on what/who to take? Basically I can't be swamped with writing assignments every week during that time period. I'm assuming that Finance and Accounting, while likely challenging, would rely more on test than writing assignments or papers.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

I Just finished Acct 701 with Ambrosio - There is no writing, and one non-proctored, and one proctored - open note (multiple choice) test per week. If you have any accounting background at all, the class is an easy A, requiring 5-10 hours per week at most.

I just started the program, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.
There doesn't seem to be much of a difference between specialization and concentration. And in my research I found that even declaring one is a matter of taste. If you specify that you want to concentrate/specialize in a particular area, then you MUST take the three classes in that area (though I don't believe there's any difference on your diploma). So personally, I'm just going the general route, though the three non-core courses I take may end up all being part of one concentration.
From the first tests I've taken in ISDS 705 and ACCT 701 (and looking at the textbooks), you don't really need a formal background in econ/business. You may need to do a little background reading (or watching YouTube/Udemy videos), but not much.

@tbowen - not a whole lot of info out there. I do have some files I will forward you from his 720 class that have calculators that are somewhat useful as there is crossover between the 2 classes. I took the practice test yesterday which was not too bad, have you taken it ?

Email sent, check and make sure you got it

Zach,
nothing yet. Address is owent65@lsus.edu
I am taking the practice in the morning, just want to review the notes one more time.

@tbowen. Just Resent, sorry I sent to LSU.edu, instead of lsus. Let me know your thoughts on the practice test after you take it. I didn’t think it was too bad, but it’s a little unnerving that it is only 21 questions and the real test is 31 - so what curves is he going to throw us?

Differences between the two:
In regards to your diploma - No difference. Neither shows up on your diploma.
In regards to your transcript - One concentration will show up, specializations do not. While this may seem meaningful, I personally have never been asked for my transcript outside of school applications.
In regards to anything else - The school can provide a letter stating your concentration or specialization. If you do multiple concentrations or specializations, the letter is the only way to show this.
And you don't need a business background for an MBA. This program is not difficult, although some classes can be time consuming if you aim for an "A".

I'll also add, at least with some concentrations the class list changes. I know for the data analytics there were 1-2 other classes I have the option to take that weren't available in the general MBA as electives.

Strangely nervous with the seemingly simplicity of the first test for ISDS 705
