I didn't do well on this one, but that's due to a lack of preparation, not so much the difficulty. Between an intense new job and unreasonable spouse who believes that I should be helping more around the house (I work full time and am going through the MBA, she's a housewife), I simply didn't have much time to study.

The questions can get quite detailed, so you really need to know the material on much more than just a cursory level.

The case we are suppose to analyze ....wait for it ..... is PayTm. Apparently my silent prayers to Jesus about this case going away have not been heard. :(

But seriously , we took a lean canvas , filled it in. Now we are using a google document and each writing a few paragraphs with references.

Are you interested in learning something or the easiest possible class?

Easiest possible - Lin
Learn something (but still easy) - Gibbs

Finally got my grade last night at roughly 10:30. Got zero feedback, just a score. Glad I seemed to do it right as I had already turned in my second.

Take it with Gibbs. Its actually an easier A than Lin and you'll learn a lot.

Lin's class is an embarrassment to the program.

Geaux,

You're in the Atlanta area right? I work a bit outside of Atlanta, in Augusta. What industry are you in?

Yup. Currently have an IT and product management consulting firm, primarily in the healthcare space. Looking to move into a COO/CTO level role with a SaaS company.

I may end up going the entrepreneur route with my own SaaS idea and seeing how it goes.

I actually love the new job. I'm busy as hell, but it's interesting despite being intense and mentally exhausting.

The second half of the equation however....

guys
what system do you use to do your citations?
there has to be an easy way to do this.
do you manually do it?
i've been using word to manage them but I get points taken off every time for it not being APA correct.
is there some type of program i can get?

The citations are easy once you get the hang of it. I had a hard time adjusting at first and had to do a lot of research (because I hadn't needed to cite anything in ages).

Just do like this:

Doe, J. (2018, November 27). This is the name of the article. Retrieved from www.copyandpastethefullweblink.com/allthemiscstuffthatfollows.

Note the periods throughout. Italicized article title. The in text citation is (Doe, 2018).

I have not lost a point with this format using online sources including course texts (Just right click and "copy link" for the weblink in Moodle).

Baroqen, We must be in the same MADM 760 class. I wonder when the 8 points for the module 5 exam will be issued.

What courses are you taking next term?

Has anyone taken Fin 710 and Fin 720? Can you share the differences between the two? I understand one is theoretical versus actual practice, and the other is investment strategy. Care to provide any more insight?

I have yet to have any points removed for citations in any of the three classes that I have taken so far.
Here's what I do:
All internet sources
Smith, J. (Date of article). Name of Article (in italics). Retrieved from (link to story).

In the work, I start with "According to Smith, "blah blah blah (2010)."
Not saying it's right for all, but no points deducted yet. Feel free to use.

I took both with Hsieh. I would suggest taking 710 then 720 if possible because the first 25% of 720 is a review of 710. Both touch on concepts from 701.

There is a lot of math. But if you have your excel "toolbox" sheets from the 710 text book it can be plug and play. If not just make excel sheets for all the math practice problems and its easy. But if I recall students today have no textbooks.

In terms of Theoretical vs actual. I don't really remember but I think it is all theory really anyway.

In 710 we discussed risk and return and how rick is measured. Futures & forwards, time value of money, rates swaps, etc.

In 720 the first 25% reviews all of the above, in fact it was some of the same readings. But then we looked at M&A evaluation (very basic versions - anything more in-depth would be a separate course), Capital Structure, Redistributions of wealth, etc...

I can send you the reading packet for each course of you want.

If you want to apply what you learn to personal investing I would try to retain what you learn about futures and options trading strategies to limit risk.

That's strange. I've only used the citation manager in Word set to APA style for my entire time in the MBA program. I've never had an issue or points knocked off for using it.

I make sure to change the text "Bibliography" or "Works Cited" to "References."

I make sure book titles only have the first word capitalized as per APA style.

If you mention the name of the author of the citation in the text, you only have to provide the year in the in-text parenthetical reference. i.e.: Smith (2018) wrote that...

For journal articles, after the page number in the Pages field, I type a period, then the doi information. For example: "20-27. doi: xxxxxxxxxxxxx"

The 8 points have already been issued for me. The grade for the M5 exam now has a different formatting than the rest due to the manual adjustment.

I'm doing ISDS 702 paired with MADM 701 (Heller) and then ACCT 701 (Huang) with FIN 701 (Choi).

Then I'm done. I can't even begin to express how burned out I am right now, so I REALLY need this break coming up. Hopefully I can recharge sufficiently to do this for another 4 months.
