I took it, DarthPasta. It's more of a quiz and it's not too bad, no curveballs. Read the chapter, read it again, and you should do fine. I feel a little disappointed in myself that I got one question wrong but I took it at 2:30 AM, so maybe that wasn't the best idea.

Anyone take McLaughlin’s first exam yet? What was it like?
Anyone know if "The China Challenge" article at the end of Chapter 1 is supplemental or core material (i.e. will it be on the test)?

Nice, been trying to find out if the lengthy article at the end of chapter 1 "The China Challenge" will be included on the test. Can you say one way or the other on how much time I should spend on the supplemental article?

Happy New Term everyone. It's my final stretch until graduation!
In Meeks (MADM760) with several of you all. I consider myself lucky (knocks on wood) because my team was all responsive by Tuesday Morning and we had our first Zoom meeting Wednesday night. Had no issues deciding on a meeting day/time and everyone is responsive in our group chat and discussion board. I stayed with Meeks because I didn't want another discussion post and (2) replies class. I am enjoying the interaction with my classmates in real time.
Also in MADM720 with Williams. The Leadership Portfolio is daunting but the material will be interesting.
Overall I am relatively calm out of the gate this term. I guess because I know THIS.IS.IT.!
I am taking the same exact two classes. what in the hell possessed me to take two writing classes?!?!?

@bsramzy OMG!!!!!!!!! You feel my pain!!! I opened those syllabus and said what did I do? I should have taken one of these with MKT 701. I took it solo because of feedback but looking back could have paired it. Wishing you luck. I have slept little this week.

TigerDragon,
It's impossible to say actually. Keep in mind that to my knowledge, all classes use a question bank drawn upon at random so you are highly unlikely to have the same questions as I did.
That said, in my experience (generally) for all classes so far, supplemental articles tend to be more for clarification of concepts than for nitpicking details. That's not to say that it doesn't happen, but the good teachers rarely require superfluous details (ie what year did New Coke debut, where was Winnie the Pooh when Tigger finally found him) but may require sufficient understanding of the concepts (ie What was the major reason that New Coke failed, how could Tigger have utilized management to get the hunny pot off of Pooh's head).

I feel sorry for you, Getitdone as this is definitely a proper data science course. The funny part is that... the course isn't actually taught by LSUS at all. It's a subscription to a website called Data Camp where all of the learning is taking place. You could technically do your own subscription to the program, although it does suck that you didn't get to experience it. It's certainly quite a challenge to learn in 7 weeks but so far it seems like it has some potential for a DA specialist.
Maybe you should write to the university asking to get a subscription. I don't think it actually costs them ANYTHING. From what I saw, Data Camp charged individuals and businesses but not schools. Aside from giving you links to the Data Camp videos on youtube and testing you on your knowledge (Data Camp can also test you), there isn't all that much coming from the class aside from access to someone to answer any questions you may have.
As an online MBA veteran, I'm sure you could get your own questions answered from your REAL teacher in the program: Professor Google.

My anxiety about the workload has kept me from sleeping. Im establishing a schedule that I hold myself to. But the group work has me always concerned.
I think I am a professional worrier.

Anyone know if HCAD750 is curved? I keep reading; but, it is just alphabet soup. Feeling overwhelmed by all of the abbreviations. :-)
Posted on 10/27/18 at 4:55 pm to GeauxUF
For Gherfal HCAD750, do you get your results back to see what you missed? I just bombed the first exam.

Thanks, I usually read the supplemental materials but its just nice to know how much time commitment i should put toward them. I'm gonna take test 1 now, so will find out in a bit...

Just took the MADM760 McLaughlin Test, very straightforward. I sadly got 1 wrong, word of advice, stick with your first instinct.

Getitdone,
Yours too! We all help each other out here. If you're really interested, I might actually have something that you can use to learn R. Look into "Swirl" or Swirl Stats which is another package for learning R. Keep in mind that R and R Studio are both free (required to run Swirl), and Swirl is a package that you can download for R that is supposed to "teach R in R". Once you're done with the program, you could always run yourself through the Swirl program. Then you can be a little more confident about putting DA on your resume with R as a skill.

I wish they would let us audit the course for free. I also do not feel comfortable having a “concentration” in Data A.

HCAD 750: If I remember correctly, no you don't get to see what you missed, and he does change your grade some based on throwing out bad questions. My scores always increased by 2 to 3 points when he finalized the grades. I don't think he curves. This was the first class of HCAD offered in March 2018. He may have worked through those issues already and may not have anymore bad questions. Who knows, if he changed the material since that class or not. I thought he was a lenient grader especially on the papers. I made sure I did well on the papers to make up for the quirkiness of the exams that used information between three sources...the free text, the powerpoint, and the original text you have to buy that he does not mention. I found that he may use one source more that the others on one test, then change it up, so don't make the mistake like me and just depend on the source he tested on last. Review all of them. Hope this helps!
Getitdone,
Thank you for the response. We are given PDF files of a text book, plus power points, plus a second book.
It's my first class in some years and my first ever online class; so, making my way... I'm mostly shocked that there aren't any lectures online to listen to. Living and learning.
Again, thank you!
