A Canadian woman who parked her car in the left lane of a highway to help ducks by the side of the road has been charged with two counts of criminal negligence and dangerous driving causing death after a motorist crashed into her car, resulting in the death of the driver and his 16-year-old daughter.
Emma Czornobaj, 25, was convicted by a jury and could face up to life in prison. When Czornobaj stopped on the side of a provincial highway south of Montreal to aid the wandering ducks, Andre Roy, 50, slammed into Czornobaj's car on his motorcycle. The woman told the court that she is an animal lover and intended to take the ducks home. She has been released until her pre-sentence hearing on August 8.
The case's prosecutor, Annie-Claude Chasse, told the court, "What we hope is that a clear message is sent to society that we do not stop on the highway for animals. It's not worth it."

Well before the animal loving hippies come out, how would you feel if that was your 16 yr. old daughter that died?

You know what they say: If she likes the duck...

She was dumb for stopping on a highway but whoever hit her should've been able to stop if not following too close unless there was an obstructed view. But jail time is stupid. This is something I expect from the US. I'm surprised Canada's justice system is so retarded.

If I had to guess that's where the wreck less endangerment is coming into play. She stopped her car in a traveling lane and got out. It was also probably in a blind spot for somebody on a motorcycle to hit it.
If she pulls her car over on the side of the road, no one dies and she doesn't go to jail.

What if I pulled over to check my tire, and some idiot runs into my car killing himself?
I shouldn't be responsible for that. Pay fricking attention to the road.

I'd put it in her Czornhole

You are a fricking a-hole if you stop your car in any lane of a highway to aid wondering ducks. Apparently this idiot didn't even put her flashers on, and another motorist swerved just missing her car right before the motorcycle hit her car, which would help to explain how the motorcycle didnt have time to stop. Well, did the ducks at least make it across the road?

I'm not a hippie freak but I care more about animals than humans. I'd feel worse if I killed a dog with my car than if I killed a human.

Shouldn't face life, but it's a really fricking stupid thing to do.

Without knowing the details a several questions come to mind:
1. Why didn't the woman pull of to the side of road to help the ducks?
2. Why was the motorcyclist apparently traveling at such a high rate of speed with his daughter that he could not see the woman's car and avoid an accident?
3. I mean what if the woman had to stop for any number of other reasons? Hell in a routine traffic situation in the U.S. it would be the motorcyclist rear-ending the woman who would be considered at fault in such a similar scenario.

damn a motorcycle did that?
Man, Motorcycles are easy as hell to lane shift at speed, he must of not been paying attention.
What if she was broke down or wrecked?

Any drivers in this thread? You can see she stopped her car on the highway with zero shoulder so she is an idiot. Cars coming from behind probably had trouble predicting a car on the highway was not moving. The cars in front of the motorcycle switch lanes At the last minute so the motorcycle sees the problem too late. It happens all the time on busy highways with no shoulder.
