So how often do you see kids that everyone wants on their team at a young age be just plain average by hs?

Do the kids that have good technique young stand out more or the athletic "bigger faster stronger" types?

Why isn't there a TD travel ball team?

Coaches hardly have time for a visit for a kid that nobody on their staff saw play.....

Video doesn't do baseball justice either

Big Ed. Pretty often.....

One o the best I ever saw at 12, 13 and 14

Never lettered in HS

One of his 12 year old teammates that did not stick out at all was all state MVP

It does.....

What's weird is now that nearly every kid my kids age
We used to recognize ALL of them regardless of number

Now we barely recognize some

Heck someone that coached my kid 2 years ago barely recognized him last week

Yeah there's a kid that was on that original Thunder team that quit around 11-12. I told a friend at the time that the kid would likely be one of the best of that group when its all said and done. Just had not learned his body yet/awkward. I look forward to the next few years and see how he grows into his body.

Already witnessed this happening in Middle school. Amazing how many struggle swinging a -3 bat.

What's that mean? Smaller bat?

I'd guess they see a big jump in the pitches around puberty too

-3 means bat length minus bat weight.
Example : if you have a bat that's 31 in length the weight in ounces would be 28.

Bats used during school ball cannot be more than -3. So kids who are use to using a lighter bat (-8 = 30 in length and 22 ounces in weight) struggle using a heavier bat.

Plus pitchers mound is 60' from the plate and base path increases to 90' for school ball vs 55' mound and 70' base path kids grew up playing on.

Thanks. I was genuinely curious.

Will be in bham in a few weeks to see if Tenn, Alabama, or Texas can offer a challenge.

Well actually I know there's one kid faster than him in Texas. But they do give out three medals so....
