He's an oddity for me in that I enjoy his podcast and his columns, but I can't stand him on TV or any other medium. He's become this smug, self-important caricature of himself.

I don't know what it is about sportswriters, but the good ones always seem to turn into terrible, petty people who vastly overstate the importance of both sports and themselves. Simmons, Rick Reilly, Peter King -- seems to happen to everyone.

One thing about Simmons is that he goes on these insane tangents every now and then in these shows, the worst being when he tried to posit that LeBron played badly in a playoff game because Cleveland got the first pick in that day's lottery, and perhaps that meant he was thinking of returning to the Cavs and he'd be playing with that pick. Like I said, insane.

He's good on his podcasts when he's has on someone like Chuck Klosterman and they can ramble about the JFK assassination or when he's bullshitting with Sal, Jacko or House.

And I actually like him more talking about other sports. When it comes to basketball, I think he's convinced himself that he's actually a part of the game or that he has real infulence in the league.
