Yep same w/ St. Johns -- the Redmen changed to the Red Storm

Maybe the Redskins can do the same

King is just a shill for the league. I wouldn't doubt for a second that Goodell wants a name change, he hates bad publicity for the league. But he's also employed by the owners and doesn't want to be seen as strong-arming an owner into making such a massive change to his franchise.

I get the Redmen part...even though I don't think it had anything to do with Indians, but who the hell has referred to an Indian as orange?

This seems to be a strategy for several high schools/colleges. Get consent from a specific tribe, you're good. The high school I went to in Texas has a letter from the Cherokee nation with expressed consent and approval of the nickname 'Indians'.

I didn't think this was a big deal until I put other races in place of "Red" in the name and found that they sounded pretty racist.

the Washington Whiteskins
the Washington Blackskins

There's no way those would be ok. American Indians are a minority that aren't as vocal as others so it's been left in place though in all honesty it probably should've been changed long ago.

Two thoughts:
1) I don't believe the name was ever intended to be offensive, it was intended to show respect to indian warriors. I get that people are offended by it. Are we going to force organizations to change for everything that people find offensive?

The Fighting Irish of Notre Dame are far more offensive, and for the obvious connotation of drunken micks. But they are white and nobody gives a shite.

2) You are asking the Redskins to change their entire brand. There are significant costs associated with it, and a lot of that is opportunity cost.

Your post makes no sense. Redskins is okay because you think they did it out of respect. However, Notre Dame named itself The Fighting Irish as a slight to Irish people.

Please, go on.

It wouldn't have been such a big deal if Daniel Snyder wouldn't have been a dick about it and started wheeling fake "Indian chiefs" who support it and honoring Native American "war heroes" on national TV, it might have died down. Instead of acknowledging they might have a point, he found the black Republican and said "SEE? INDIANS LOVE THE NAME AND THEY LOVE ME!" It's as tone deaf as Donald Sterling's response and the public finally realizes he's full of shite.

It's more than your so-called "liberals" in the fight now, and that's his fault. That's why it's blowing up.

But don't worry. The Liberals are still coming for Jesus and your guns. So you still have more fights after you lose this one.

What's sad is that the NFL doesn't see this as a right or wrong issue. They just don't want to lose money, which is interesting since they're a non-profit organization.
