Mad? Neither.
Both are accurate representations of the idiocy that is steering this ship.
I understand why, look how unsafe this all is. FEMA camps, the Chinese are coming, and guns and porn are next.

Did you go with any AFOSI guys if you did?
No. I am not sure what that acronym stands for. Air Force Special Agents?

Bingo. There are major metro SWAT teams that receive a high level of specialized training and I would assume are qualified to operate this type of equipment effectively.
Yea the ex military guys who get into this stuff or the special selected cops its not an issue. Big City swat and federal agencies have some high speed and tough to get into tactical teams.

Every podunk town has a SWAT vehicle for when Ernie gets likkered up and beats up Thelma Lou.
AR-15s, flashbangs, MRAPs, it gets more ridiculous by the day.

Do you expect them to execute a Corgi with a handgun when raiding the wrong house to seize $50,000 in drugs while leveraging $200,000 in resources?

Thats my point. Everything I've ever seen or read about professional SWAT/CT teams puts the emphasis on drills and training nonstop. Those guys play like they practice.
Would you want your life in the hands of guys that practice once a month?

Speedy,
When are you going to get one of those to ride around and check for out of date brake tags?

When he joins the Marines.

One of the Indiana counties spent only $5,000 for its MRAP, while the government originally purchased the vehicle for $733,000.
There's your problem. For only $5K who wouldn't want one of those suckers? It's basically free. Now, if the feds sold them to local PD for even $200,000 (still a huge discount) they would have to stop and think, hm, do we really need this? And the answer would probably be no.

Yeah it seems every town in America has those SWAT assholes now.
Posted on 6/10/14 at 11:35 am to TigerFred
Fred, the request has already been sent up the chain.
Hopefully I'll be able to have my own one by the beginning of football season so I can start working DWI checkpoints in it.
Hell, I may even write an inspection sticker ticket or two in north Baton Rouge if I get one.
I'll be sure to post pics

The number of ex-military who have increasing numbers in local police forces are the issue. They are the source of the military mindset, to quote one "we approach the situation just like in Iraq, if you are not in our uniform, you are the enemy."

might have given more cred to the article had he clarified the pic, doesn't change the fact that a lot of this type of surplus is going to pds/sheriffs depts., etc,

Yeah, and if I can find someone to give me a Lear I still couldn't afford to own it or use it.
People have no clue the TCOO of one of these vehicles.

I do believe there is equipment going to local departments but not on the scale that many on this board espouse about. Local departments can ask the Feds for money for certain things and the Feds supply it. Any Mraps that are purchased are acutallu purcahsed from the fed with fed dollars. Obviously all of that money once belonged to tax payers but if you want to get mad at someone get made at the fed govt. for handing out money like it was candy.

So much for "protect and serve." Francisco Franco would be proud of these United States.

No doubt. Who maintains these things? Even if they sit in storage 364 days a year there's some work that has to be done to keep them working, and I doubt the local grease monkeys are qualified.
