Who's got the best cake in NOLA? Also, where can I get a good red velet cake in NOLA?

Build a time machine and go to Lawrence's Bakery (aka "Mr Wedding Cake") on Elysian Fields in Gentilly.
If Heaven exists, it smells like the inside of that bakery.

Debbie Does Doberge: LINK / very sweet, typical layered doberge
Cake Cafe: LINK / does a nice red velvet, w/cream cheese frosting
Gracious Bakery: LINK the southern pecan is freakin' awesome
I also like the fresh fruit chantilly cake from Chez Pierre in Kenner; LINK /
it is a quality cake, very pretty, and a tad cheaper than comparable cakes (ie, a big 12" 3-layer cake was $50).

Bittersweet Confections has the best cupcakes in the city I know that. Can imagine their cakes are just as great.
