Im a Oil and Gas consultant and I can say 1st hand every client rep including myself "represent" 3 schools. LSU, Texas A&M, and Texas. Petroleum has more 250k a year plus jobs than any other sector in the industry.
So how many former LSU players are working in petroleum? I'm not quite understanding how LSU's connections in oil and gas have anything to do with this decision.

None that I have met. But I have done some work with Eddie Freeman former 2nd round draft pick of the Chiefs in 2002 out of UAB. He is a HSE Consultant and got himself some petroleum schooling at Nicholls State as well. There is life after football... even for those who make it to the league.
Correlation for you:
Playing for the Home team.
Better chance of being developed to NFL talent.
BC kids want to make money.
LSU is one of the major O&G Player suppliers of talent.
Life after football.
Biggest is Life after football. less than 1.7% of all college football players make a NFL team. Therefore, future is key and that is what I'm talking about. They all want to go pro. but the reality is out of 9000 only 200 make a roster

It's Patterson. If the kid wants to live there after his playing years are over and actually have a good job, there's a good chance it would be in the oil biz somehow.
Not that I think this is likely to be the deciding factor for any kid, but it isn't a horrible point. This tends to be the way that parents think, not the way that kids think.
