I do a fair amount of video editing (Adobe Premiere) and the work-flow is now to the point where I can justify a new PC for that purpose. When I pull the trigger on this thing, I want to make sure I don't make any technical blunders in terms of horsepower so I thought I'd float this out to the Tech Board in hopes of making a short list of "must haves" for my new Video editing PC. I've already been to NewEgg.com but due to my lack of technical knowledge of graphic cards and performance, etc, I can't bring myself to buy one there (NewEgg does not give technical advice, so you're basically on your own). I'm also thinking about visiting a local PC shop and talking to him about what I need and let him build it for me.

Does it make sense to buy a PC that's advertised primarily for gaming?? Will that cover all my bases? Thanks in advance...

You really need to list your budget.

Sort of hard to help build something without it. I could put together a list of parts to build a super bad arse PC for you but it might be way more than what you want to spend.

Also list your budget for just the tower. The peripherals would be up to you.

OK guys - I'm still monitoring the thread. I went back to NewEgg and narrowed down down my choices to these LINK (BTW, I'm not committed to NewEgg or any online seller...)

Here are a few from TigerDirect: LINK

Here's my criteria: $750-$1250; AMD/NVIDIA/16GB Ram. If you get a minute, hoping you could peruse these and tell me which in your opinion is the best value.

I readily admit I'm behind the curve when it comes to translating these specs into actual performance. Thanks to all for sharing your thoughts...

**If you have a favorite local PC shop that builds these things (BR, NOLA, Northshore), feel free to chime in. Are these guys generally considered to be a good option compared to online sellers? If so, why? TIA...

All the parts are in. Well the blessed day arrived (today) and I rolled up my sleeves to get this thing built. Right ut the gate, I run into problems. Two surprises (1 really dumb on my part;the other a manufacturer screw up).

1. There's no sound card! I went blindly by the list from pcpartspicker.com but alas, no sound card. Am I missing something? Is the sound card now incorporated into the mobo?

2. The CPU cooler - the standoff screw threads that came with the Cooler Master 212 Plus are clearly too big to fit into the hole in the mobo. I emailed Cooler Master just to see what they say. I assume the easy fix is to go down to the parts shop and simply get compatible standoffs that are exactly the same height as the ones that came with the cooler.

Here's my list: LINK

What a bitch!!! And I was so excited to put it together today.
