I think that the people who don't get that are either those who were not yet born or were very, very young during those days.

I was in my teens during this era, and modern Super Bowl teams have succeeded with lesser or equal QBs (AKA: Steelers, Ravens). The organization after Finks died was so dysfunctional, and Mora was not what you would call a clutch coach, and the offensive playbook looked like something out of Pop Warner.

Jim Finks thought Hebert was overrated and tried to dump his arse. Then after one year of Fourcade/Walsh, he lost all his leverage and Hebert got them 23 wins in 2 years. Then he got the blame for the Eagles game and went to Atlanta, and the Saints didn't make the postseason for another 8 years. He really wasn't that bad. Didn't need to win games but wasn't expected to.

My best analogy would be a poor man's Bernie Kosar.

Looks like someone is of an age to actually remember the Bobby days. Well stated.

The QB position was the weakest link on Mora's teams. By far.

Yes, the year Bobby held out. That they were so inept with Fourcade on offense illustrates just how much Bobby was doing. He was constantly getting KILLED back there. He actually got his teeth knocked out and kept playing...LOL

I don't blame him one bit for taking the Atlanta money.

Joe Montanan sung his praises. Atlanta signed him and he started for them. That carries much more weight than your ridiculous assessment of his ability. You are wrong.

Not really. Hebert was average at best. He cracked the top ten in QB rating what, once? He was a starter in Atlanta though...so was Billy Joe Tolliver.

I realize he is a local son/cherished negative stereotype but when we fell behind with Hebert at the helm you knew the game was over

Leaving for Atlanta wasn't a big deal. Saints fans were ready for a change, and he was brought into Atlanta to be Chris Miller's backup. The 93 Atlanta season was already going downhill (0-5 start) when it became his team.

And then they got Jeff George the next year to be their starter. Basically he became the Falcons' starting QB twice by default.

He was still a good QB for the Saints, however.

Yeah, and that was all on Hebert with that Paytonesque offense we had during his tenure.
