Definitely get the rudder. It's night and day difference on performance. I ordered mine without a rudder and then turned around and ordered one a month later. It was more expensive to do it like that but I didn't think I really needed it. I was wrong.

How does the Ride compare price wise? The tarpon I'm looking at runs 1100 give or take.
Just checked, they're pretty similar in price.
Thanks for all the advice, that Ride 135 looks pretty legit, if it's in the store I'm gonna be quite tempted to make a move on that one!
