Either way the same principle applies. How can whites be upset that black people that have never been to Africa might call themselves African American and at the same time call people that have never been to Asia, Asians?
On the other hands, as has been pointed out repeatedly in this thread, the term "African American" as YOU are using it is technically inaccurate because YOU are using it to describe black people, not African Americans. You proved this when you said that Charlize Theron is not African American, even though she was born in Africa, raised in Africa, understands African culture, speaks an African language, and now lives in America. Your refusal to call her and others like her African Americans nullifies your own point. What you really mean by African American is black. So why don't you just say that?
I don't see anybody anywhere saying some people who are of Asian descent aren't really Asian because of the tone of their skin.
So that's the answer to your question.

People say things when in places like this one because they can be anonymous when they are politically incorrect. Of course you don't hear this much irl, but all of these pages both here and other places show you how much whites care.

My point is that the same whites that get bent over "African American" over the technicality that most black Americans have never been to Africa never apply the same logical test to Asians here in the US.
