You do understand that 'African American' isn't a race, right?

Technically it is listed as a race on the US census. Either way the same principle applies. How can whites be upset that black people that have never been to Africa might call themselves African American and at the same time call people that have never been to Asia, Asians? It's racist. Why the frick should you care anyway?

Do people really get upset at that? I think IRL nobody gives a shite. We're just talking hypotheticals on a message board. Speaking for myself I don't care what people call themselves.

On the other hands, as has been pointed out repeatedly in this thread, the term "African American" as YOU are using it is technically inaccurate because YOU are using it to describe black people, not African Americans. You proved this when you said that Charlize Theron is not African American, even though she was born in Africa, raised in Africa, understands African culture, speaks an African language, and now lives in America. Your refusal to call her and others like her African Americans nullifies your own point. What you really mean by African American is black. So why don't you just say that?

I don't see anybody anywhere saying some people who are of Asian descent aren't really Asian because of the tone of their skin.

So that's the answer to your question.
