I have a question.

Why do people take things that are popular then turn them into verbs?

The term catfish in the movie came from what the husband of the liar said, and it was a weird off-handed quote. I bet you/others don't even know the quote.

So why use it?

Is it just easier to say that than the act of the people who make up and act under a false persona?

catfish has become a pretty well used term for the situation. Words are created all the time. Just get with the program.

I've never known anyone who got catfished.
