I recognize that this has likely been done on numerous occasions here, but I was watching me some "Training Day" this weekend, and think I would put Denzel's rant (at the end, obviously, including use of King Kong metaphor) up near the very top. Off the top of my head:

1. Training Day - Denzel's rant at end
2. Scent of a Woman - Pacino's "speech" at end
3. A Few Good Men - Nicholson

I enjoyed all of the above movies - the rants make them extra good. Are there movies that are not that great, but worth it just to see the rant? Other favs?

I think if we're talking rants/monologues, you gotta throw Alec Baldwin in Glengary Glen Ross in there. The guy basically had 10 minutes of screentime and was nominated for an Oscar.

Nic Cage on *ahem* negro elk in Port of Call: LINK

I'm not going to post the transcript because I don't feel like getting banned for using a racial slur.

Actually, any Nic Cage moment ever.

By definition, I'd consider Kevin Costner's "speech" a rant in Bull Durham so I'm throwing it out there.

quote:

Crash Davis: After 12 years in the minor leagues, I don't try out. Besides, uh, I don't believe in quantum physics when it comes to matters of the heart.

Annie Savoy: What do you believe in, then?

Crash Davis: Well, I believe in the soul, the cock, the pussy, the small of a woman's back, the hanging curve ball, high fiber, good scotch, that the novels of Susan Sontag are self-indulgent, overrated crap. I believe Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing Astroturf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, soft, wet kisses that last three days.

Vince Vaughn's rant in Wedding Crashers about dating:

quote:

Janice, I apologize to you if I don't seem real eager to jump into a forced awkward intimate situation that people like to call dating. I don't like the feeling. You're sitting there, you're wondering do I have food on my face, am I eating, am I talking too much, are they talking enough, am I interested I'm not really interested, should I play like I'm interested but I'm not that interested but I think she might be interested but do I want to be interested but now she's not interested? So all of the sudden I'm getting, I'm starting to get interested... And when am I supposed to kiss her? Do I have to wait for the door cause then it's awkward, it's like well goodnight. Do you do like that arse-out hug? Where you like, you hug each other like this and your arse sticks out cause you're trying not to get too close or do you just go right in and kiss them on the lips or don't kiss them at all? It's very difficult trying to read the situation. And all the while you're just really wondering are we gonna get hopped up enough to make some bad decisions? Perhaps play a little game called "just the tip". Just for a second, just to see how it feels. Or, ouch, ouch you're on my hair.

Jim Carrey in Liar Liar when he goes to pick up his car that has a scratch on it.

quote:

Fletcher: You scratched my car!
Impound Guy: Where?
Fletcher: [showing him] Right there!
Impound Guy: Oh. That was already there.
Fletcher: You... you liar! You know what I'm going to do about this?
Impound Guy: What?
Fletcher: Nothing! Because if I take it to small claims court, it will just drain eight hours out of my life and you probably won't show up, and even if I got the judgment you'd just stiff me anyway. So what I'm gonna do is piss and moan like an impotent jerk and then bend over and take it up the tailpipe!
Impound Guy: You've been here before, haven't ya?

Some people seem to think that monologue=rant.

Hell, some people are even suggesting one-liners.
