Its really hard to do anything with 9 hours, other than a meal.

You figure its at least an hour to deplane and get through immigration (probably closer to 90 minutes to 2 hours), and you probably need to be at the airport 90 mins before your flight.

Throw in 30 minutes (very optimistic) to get into the city and out, and you are looking at 4-5 hours in the city. And that is if everything goes right.

I haven't tried it in Frankfurt, but I tried it in amsterdamn and Rome and felt crazy rushed the whole time. And well frankfurt is an industrial city, it doesn't have a ton of sights.

I had a 6 hr layover in frankfurt last fall. I just found a bench, laid down and took a nap.

eta: Food in frankfurt airport is pretty good, at least for a german city.

There's also a decent Irish pub.

How much time were you in Amsterdam? I had 6 hours and immigration was literally 30 seconds. The USA needs to stop being such security pussies.

As for Frankfurt, OP, let me know if there is a great place in the airport. My layover there in December is only a couple hours so no leaving.
