I know RJ has been having health issues this year.

But a change has been needed for about 3 years now (if not more).

He helped transform Tulane from a very good program under Joe Brockhoff, to a team that was often nationally ranked and twice went to Omaha.

But in the last 3-5 years, the program is actually worse than it was when he took over. I don't know if he forgot how to recruit, or what. I know it's difficult with the academic standards at Tulane and the limited scholarships, but its shocking how bad they've become.

He did a good job of taking advantage of the Smoke Laval years and built a solid program at Tulane.

I don't think Tulane survived LSU's resurgence and ULL's rise.

Getting into Tulane as a baseball player is incredibly easy.

As far as the limited scholarships, Jones had a huge advantage, i.e., the Tulane legislative scholarships. He's used them to recruit for years. Last year he had 7-8 players on legislative scholarships. Think about what an advantage that is.

in short, he had no excuses.

Feel bad for Jones and Tulane, but without consistency this was overdue. You like at teams like Rice than also have high academic standards, and doesn't seem to be a problem for them, Tulane should expect the same.
